KALA RAKSHA
Kala Raksha, established in the desert region Kutch in 1993, is a small, independent not for profit social enterprise dedicated to holistic development of artisans and traditional arts. Social Responsibility is important to us. Our artisans themselves price their work. This insures fair wages, always.
Our fair trade practices also include participation in design. Atisans study the collections of Kala Raksha’s Museum and Resource Center to produce new designs. The process activates innovation, vital to maintaining living traditions. Artisan groups also attend Preventive Health Care and Basic Education Programs, and manage income through micro credit savings groups. |

In 2005, Kala Raksha’s education and design programs blossomed into Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya, the world’s first design school for artisans. By 2010, we launched the brand ARTISAN DESIGN. In many hand made crafts, an artisan executes a product designed by someone other than herself. An Artisan Designed product is designed by the artisan who produced it. The brand guarantees that a product is an artisan’s own creative innovation based in her tradition, and you are purchasing a genuine work of art!
Besides ethical business, what else gives Kala Raksha our name?
Unique products, a focus on natural fibers and colours --and our personal character and approach. When we bring Kala Raksha to you, you meet Lachhuben and Hariyaben, the people who make the products you buy.
Above all, we are Kala Raksha because we bring you the finest hand work of Kutch. |
